200 mph club, wendover utah, 2005

This conceptual project designed for the Bonneville Salt Flats uses black polished granite as a primary design element.  Combining the quiet reflective quality of the material seen in many memorials, with large scale roadside infrastructure the surreal object becomes a landmark within a vast landscape.  The monument for the 200 mph club acknowledges a little known counter culture and recognizes the thrill-seekers who have challenged the land, machines and themselves for the glory of saying they driven over 200 miles per hour.  This monument honors those drivers and the drivers that died trying.
